On Friday, April 4, I had PRK eye surgery. Because my cornea is thin, I had to have PRK where they do not cut the cornea and create a flap I had to be at the surgery center at 8:00 AM so our neighbor took all the kids at 7:00 AM. Jacob & Eric left with their boy at 7:40 AM to catch the bus to school so only Brandon and Allison were there the entire time. Once I arrived they took my payment of $3,400 and then began the process of giving me numbing eye drops every so often and gave me a Valium pill to further relax me. I think it was close to 8:45 AM when they took me back to the room with the laser and performed the operation. The entire thing lasted about 8 minutes. I did not feel any pain really, mainly just pressure. It was all done quickly. I do remember the smell, similar to hair burning, and I remember the water they used afterwards to flush my eye was very cold. Amanda drove me home and the rest of the day was spent in bed resting. They had given me some sleeping pills and a lot of different eye drops.
With PRK the results are not as instant as with Lasik so I did experience some blurry and double vision for about the first week. It can make you start doubting whether you did the right thing by having this surgery. But after my visit today I can report that I have 20/15 vision and am loving it. No more contacts to put in and take out each morning and night. I love it!
You are so brave! Troy and I have been talking for about a year now to have this done for me. After wearing glasses and contacts for 23 years I think it would be awesome to see as soon as I opened my eyes!- Connie Matthews
