Spring Lake School Spelling Bee

Jacob got runner up in the spelling bee at his school. Way to go Jacob! Below is from an article on the school's website. Click here to view the original article.

The annual spelling bee was held in the gym this morning. Students have been practicing for the past several weeks in anticipation of today's event. The two students who scored highest on practice tests given in each of grades four through sixth were chosen to participate. The participants for this year were Sheldon Lovelace and Jacob Reeve from fourth grade, Hannah Barker and Jacob Michael from fifth grade and Nick Brown and Ashton Quotskyva from sixth grade.

After a practice round to help settle nerves, the spelling bee began in earnest. All of the students made it through the first two rounds, which is a rare event! While all of the students did a wonderful job, things finally boiled down to the final two contestants. In the seventh round, Jacob Michael correctly spelled "alligator" and "tornado" defeating Jacob Reeve, who had misspelled "fiasco". Regardless, it is quite an honor for a fourth grade student to take the runner-up spot!

Both Jacobs will attend the Tazewell County Spelling Bee in Tremont on February 20th, where Jacob Michael will represent Spring Lake School. Good Luck Jacob and congratulations to all the participants!
