Today Eric and I ran in the Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis in Peoria. It is a 5K run. It was amazing to see so many people show up to support such a great a cause as curing Arthritis. Eric and I joined his school team for the run. The team had over 70 participants including parents and siblings.
This was Eric's very first timed running event. We are so proud of him. He did a wonderful job, he didn't walk once and finished in under 30 min!!! Eric placed 4th in his age group (10yr old boys)!! Eric was very happy with the fact that he ran faster than me. That is OK with me though, I did really well (finishing 3 min. behind him) and I didn't walk either.
We had lots of fun looking at some of the funny costumes people were wearing...especially the ones not wearing shirts (teenage boys). Which doesn't really sound too weird except that it had snowed the night before (at least 2 in.), it was freezing outside, and it had started snowing again right before the race started!!
We are so proud of Eric for raising money to this great cause. He set a goal to raise some money and ended up raising over 4x his goal. We are so very grateful to all our friends and family that helped Eric raise money, you were all so generous!
This cause is very personal to our family. For those of you who don't know, our daughter Allison has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Allison is 4 1/2 years old and was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was 20 months old. Thanks to good doctors and medicine she is able to run and dance and not be in pain. Thankfully, right now her arthritis is under control and not spreading, but she does take a daily pain killer and a small dose of methotrexate (a chemo drug) each Sunday to keep this under control.
