My friends, Darin and Jessica Fawcett, from when I was in high school are stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base and live in Muhlbach, Germany. They offered to let us stay at their place on our way to and from Amsterdam and Berlin. They have 5 kids that have very similar ages. The kids had a great time together. In fact I think some of ours would be happy just staying with them the entire vacation.
When we entered Germany the kids immediately told me to go as fast as you can! They were excited and thrilled to be on the autobahn and be able to drive as fast as you wanted. I obliged them and put the pedal to the metal and had our minivan topped out at 188 kmh (116 mph). That still wasn't fast enough for them and they told me to go faster. I had to tell them "I have the pedal pushed down all the way!" I don't think minivans were meant to go that fast.
The kids also thought it was hilarious all the Ausfahrt (Exit) signs on the autobahn. They had to be sure to get a picture of those to share with their friends. I can't tell you how many times we heard the word "Ausfahrt" after that!
